Cost: Not much
Where from: MultiPlayCity
Do you like your case badge? The one saying "IBM Aptiva" or maybe
the name of the store where you purchased your computer? Most people
don't. That's why MultiPlayCity has the DIY Case Badge. It gives you
the opportunity to design your own badge, print it out and put it where
you want. It looks just as good as a normal case badge, or maybe even
better.
The DIY Case Badge set contains six clear poly-domes and six double
sided tape-pieces. On the picture to the right you can see four of each,
cause I gave two to tripod. The normal usage is to design a badge on your
computer and print it out with at least 720 dpi (dots per inch). but
since I have access to two bad ink printers and one black-and-white laser
printer I'm trying another way: stickers.
Howto
Together with the product I got a really good explanation on how to get the best results. Here is an summary:
Make your design or image 600x600 pixels large and print it out as a
1" (25 mm) square. This has the same result as anti-aliasing in games,
making the result much better. When the ink is dry, get a poly-dome. Be
careful so you don't get any finger prints on the stiky side. Align it
with the print and slowly press them together. Make shure you get out
all the air bubbles. Use a ruler to cut the edges. Then put a double
sided strip on the backside of your badge. If you don't want it to fall
of clean the place where you want to put your badge, preferably with
something based on alcohol or isopropanol. When the area is dry peal of
the paper on the backside of the double sided strip on the backside of
your badge (complicated, eh?) and stick your beauty on. Now take a few
steps back and enjoy.
Stickers
Now, this is how I did it:
First, climb up to your attic, find your old box with all the cool
things from your old Donald Duck comics. The new ones, in Norway
at least, only contains stupid things like keyrings and frisbies. Your
looking for stickers. Grab some few with your favorite characters. Follow
the howto above. The last sentence is of course the most vital, take a step
back, take a deep breath and admire the beauty.
